History

The Rathaus or Vienna city hall was designed by the architect Friedrich von Schmidt in the style of Gothic Revival, and built between 1872 and 1883. On the top of its 98-meters high main tower rises the Rathausmann statue, one of the symbols of the city. In the Rathausplatz square in front of the City Hall some outstanding festive events are held all year round.
